Cellulite: Cellulite-Fighting Foods

Question:

Can diet affect cellulite? Which food choices are the best for battling my cottage-cheese thighs, and which foods should I avoid?

Yes, what you put into your mouth has the potential to make your cellulite better or worse. Although your eating patterns don't cause cellulite per se, watching what you eat is a good way to fight cellulite. Include in your diet foods that are easily broken down and absorbed by your body and cutting down on junk food is the way to go. Here's a list of good and bad foods for cellulite.

Do eat more of these...
Eat more of fresh produce rather than heavily processed foods: Fresh fruits, raw vegetables, whole-grain foods and complex carbohydrates are great choices. Also, when buying dairy and yogurt, look out for low-fat versions of regular full-fat products, such as low-fat cheese and skimmed milk. Don't forget to drink 2 to 3 litres of water each day to flush toxins out of your system: Toxin build-up can decrease the liver's capacity to metabolize fats efficiently, leading to cellulite. In addition, some supplements have been known to improve cellulite and you may want to try these which include lecithin, linoleic acid, flaxseed oil and coenzyme Q10.

Avoid these foods...
Processed and refined foods are best avoided, not just because they can worsen the appearance of cellulite, but also because they don't provide any real nutritional value. These include chocolates, fizzy drinks and sodas, white flour, starch and sugar. You should also reduce fat intake by limiting your consumption of animal fats and fried foods. Cutting down your salt intake also helps as excess salts can contribute to water retention.
